Background & Context:

Before the implementation of the Alkeso WASH Project, the community faced dire conditions regarding water access. Residents relied on distant water sources, often contaminated and shared with animals, posing serious health risks. Lack of clean water infrastructure led to widespread waterborne diseases and compromised well-being.

Objectives:

  • Improve access to clean and safe water sources.
  • Enhance sanitation and hygiene practices in the community.
  • Empower local residents to manage and sustain water resources.

Implementation:

With funding from Necati Erelli and the government, alongside invaluable contributions from our dedicated volunteers, the project unfolded. Extensive feasibility and design studies were conducted, ensuring the effectiveness and sustainability of implemented solutions. This collaborative effort resulted in the construction of five water points, including one at a local school, spring development, 7.5km distribution water line, and a 10m3 reservoir. Cross gully work further enhanced water accessibility.

Achievement:

The completion of the Alkeso WASH Project marked a significant milestone in transforming the community’s living conditions. Access to clean water sources drastically improved, benefiting over 5000 individuals. Moreover, the project’s holistic approach fostered community engagement and ownership, laying the foundation for sustainable development.

Collaborative Contributions:

The project’s success was made possible through fruitful partnerships with Necati Erelli, government entities, and our dedicated volunteers. Their collective contributions, both financial and in-kind, propelled the project forward and ensured its impactful implementation.

Our volunteers played a pivotal role in the project’s success, contributing expertise, time, and effort throughout its various stages. From conducting feasibility studies to providing supervision and support, their dedication added significant value, estimated at 300k in monetary terms. This collaborative spirit exemplifies the power of community-driven initiatives in creating lasting change.
